Story Quilts

Writer: Gina ViolaGina Viola

Big Idea: Storytelling

Lesson Overview

Students will learn how to effectively tell a story of a favorite family memory through drawing and creating a collage paper story quilt. This is relevant because students at this age are beginning to understand that they can use art to communicate, as well as use personal experiences as subject matter in artwork. Students will also look at and discuss the work of Faith Ringgold and her corresponding book Tar Beach to relate to the topic of story quilts.
